Are there any travel guides specifically related to geographical and cultural divides within countries?
This is pretty hard to articulate, but I am looking for some kind of travel guide or blog or something of the like that is aimed at explaining the relation between geography and culture in countries, aimed at tourists. eg. the North-South divide in Italy, the East-West divide in Germany
For context:
I am from the UK. Recently on a ferry, I was talking to an American man from Appalachia who was visiting the UK and Ireland. One topic we discussed was the relation between geography and culture in different parts of our own countries. I explained to him how the low-lying south of England has dominated our country for decades, and that the north has historically been exploited for resources and labour, and that northerners generally have a negative opinion of southerners. Some northerners don't even consider themselves British. I also explained the differences in sport, religion, language etc. He did the same for me, but with Appalachian culture. He told me about Appalachian accents, music, religion and the exploitation of their resources and labour from their states (similar to the north of the UK), resulting in a lack of infrastructure in the region. He also said because of the culture, it's rare for someone to leave the US if they're Appalachian.
Before talking to one another, these were aspects of history and culture we knew a little about, but getting to hear the full perspective from someone in these places was very eye-opening. I feel like knowing what divides exist in other countries would help me shape my travel plans so that I get to see all sides of a country when visiting it, and not just the main areas. I have used travel guides and sites like Lonely Planet and wikivoyage but neither have enough of a focus on this specific aspect of travel that I'd like to see. I haven't been able to find a better solution than just reading well into the history of a country and finding the divides out myself, which can be very time consuming depending on the country. I'd rather know what divides exist, with some information, and use that as a starting point for planning a trip.
I hope this all makes sense lol, it's quite confusing but something I think is very important so I can see everything a country has to offer. I don't think people who limit themselves to just seeing London and the south of England, for instance, are seeing even a fraction of the true culture of the UK.
tldr; I am looking for a travel guide or site that focuses on explaining the cultural divides within countries, primarily the relation between geography and culture, in order to help me plan trips more thoughtfully. If anyone could help me out or at least point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated.
