Navigating the Gala Dress Code: A First-Timer’s Guide

Context: I’m 24 y/o in my first “grown up career”, the company is hosting a Gala in NYC this fall, and the dress code is cocktail. This will be my first time ever attending a gala and my first time in cocktail attire. I work for for a serious organization (non profit, NGO, advocacy), but on the creative side (graphic design, marketing, communications) and I want my outfit to have that kind of balance: professional yet playful. I want to dress to impress but without taking attention away from the cause, and I specifically want a full length dress w/ long sleeves to cover my tattoos.

My favorite is the top left (colorful pattern) and my bf’s favorite is the bottom right (orange)— which is actually my least favorite, I only added it because it is one of our brand colors. We both ranked the top right (brown) at #2.
